Ingredients

Spice Mix Base
  • 6 tbsp ground cinnamon sweet, woody backbone
  • 12 tsp ground ginger adds bright, peppery kick
  • 3 tsp ground cloves deep and pungent
  • 1.5 tsp ground nutmeg warm, nutty, and slightly sweet
  • 0.75 tsp ground allspice complex blend of warm spices
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom for a citrusy twist (optional)
  • 1 pinch black pepper adds warmth and bite (optional)

Method

  1. Step 1: Use a clean, dry bowl and a whisk or fork to ensure spices blend evenly. A small spice grinder can be used for finer texture.
  2. Step 2: Add spices in stages—start with cinnamon, then mix in ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice.
  3. Step 3: Whisk until the mixture looks uniform in color and texture. Avoid any visible streaks.
  4. Step 4: Transfer blend to a spice jar or airtight container. Label with date. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.

Notes

If you're not a fan of cloves, feel free to reduce or omit them. Double or triple the batch and share as a homemade gift. Shake the jar before each use to refresh the mix.
