Ingredients

Caramelized Onions
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large onion halved and thinly sliced
  • kosher salt to taste
Poppy-Butter Topping
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
Sliders
  • 12 mini Hawaiian rolls
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup honey mustard
  • 1 ½ lb deli-sliced turkey ham pork-free alternative
  • 1 lb Swiss cheese sliced

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions with a pinch of salt and cook over medium-low heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and caramelized. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, poppy seeds, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside.
  3. Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping them connected. Place the bottom half in a baking dish and spread evenly with mayonnaise.
  4. Layer half of the turkey ham over the rolls, followed by Swiss cheese, then the remaining ham. Spread honey mustard evenly and top with caramelized onions.
  5. Place the top half of the rolls over the sliders and gently press down. Brush generously with the poppy-butter topping.
  6. Bake for 10–15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tops are lightly golden. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
  7. Remove from the oven, rest for a few minutes, then slice into individual sliders and serve warm.

Notes

Caramelized onions add deep flavor—don’t rush this step. The poppy-butter topping is optional but highly recommended for extra richness. Customize by swapping cheeses or adding roasted peppers if desired.
