Method
- Choose a small, heat-safe glass or cup for serving.
- Add one large scoop (or two small scoops) of vanilla ice cream to the glass. Keep it frozen until ready to serve.
- Brew one fresh shot of espresso. Make sure it is hot to properly melt the ice cream.
- If using the optional non-alcoholic add-in, have it ready next to the espresso.
- Slowly pour the hot espresso (and optional add-in) directly over the ice cream.
- Serve immediately and enjoy while the contrast between hot and cold is at its best.
Notes
Vanilla gelato creates a more authentic Italian-style affogato. Serve in a clear glass to showcase the coffee-and-cream swirls. This dessert should be eaten immediately and is not suitable for storage.
