Ingredients
  

Affogato Base
  • 1 large scoop vanilla gelato or vanilla ice cream Use high-quality vanilla for best flavor
  • 1 shot hot espresso Freshly brewed and piping hot
Optional Add-In
  • 1 tablespoon non-alcoholic flavored drink or syrup Optional, for added flavor

Method
 

  1. Choose a small, heat-safe glass or cup for serving.
  2. Add one large scoop (or two small scoops) of vanilla ice cream to the glass. Keep it frozen until ready to serve.
  3. Brew one fresh shot of espresso. Make sure it is hot to properly melt the ice cream.
  4. If using the optional non-alcoholic add-in, have it ready next to the espresso.
  5. Slowly pour the hot espresso (and optional add-in) directly over the ice cream.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy while the contrast between hot and cold is at its best.

Notes

Vanilla gelato creates a more authentic Italian-style affogato. Serve in a clear glass to showcase the coffee-and-cream swirls. This dessert should be eaten immediately and is not suitable for storage.
